Shredder Oil

Shredder oil is an essential maintenance consumable for any cross cut or micro cut paper shredder. Regular oiling keeps the cutting blades lubricated, reduces friction and heat buildup, prevents paper dust from clogging the mechanism, and significantly extends the working life of your shredder.

Shredder2u stocks shredder oil in liquid bottles and oil sheets from our own Shredder2u Performance brand, Fellowes, and GBC — compatible with all shredder brands we carry. Available in sizes from 100ml to 1 litre, with prices starting from RM18 and fast delivery across Malaysia.

More about Shredder Oil

Frequently Asked Questions — Shredder Oil Malaysia

Why does a paper shredder need oil?
Every time a shredder cuts paper, the blades generate friction and fine paper dust that accumulates on the cutting head. Without lubrication, this friction causes the blades to overheat, the motor to work harder, and the cutting edges to dull faster. Regular oiling creates a thin protective layer on the blades that reduces friction, clears paper dust buildup, and allows the shredder to run cooler and more smoothly. A well-oiled shredder lasts significantly longer than one that is never maintained.
How often should I oil my shredder?
For a personal or home office shredder used a few times a week, oiling once a month is generally sufficient. For a small or medium office shredder in daily use, oil every two weeks or after every 30 minutes of accumulated shredding time. Heavy duty shredders in continuous use should be oiled weekly or as specified in the manufacturer's manual. If your shredder starts running noisily, slowing down, or jamming more frequently than usual, oiling is the first maintenance step to try before assuming a mechanical fault.
How do I apply shredder oil correctly?
For liquid oil, apply a thin zigzag line of oil across the full width of the feed slot opening, then run the shredder in reverse for 5–10 seconds to distribute the oil evenly across all the blades. Follow up by running a few sheets of scrap paper through in forward mode to absorb any excess oil before shredding real documents. For oil sheets, simply feed the sheet into the slot as you would a normal piece of paper — the oil is released as the sheet passes through the cutting head. No reverse run is needed with oil sheets.
Can I use WD-40 or other lubricants instead of shredder oil?
No — never use WD-40, cooking oil, or any general-purpose lubricant on a paper shredder. WD-40 is a water-displacing solvent, not a lubricant, and it will damage the plastic components and rubber seals inside the shredder head. Cooking oils go rancid and attract paper dust, making the problem worse over time. Shredder oil is a specifically formulated mineral oil that is safe for the materials used in shredder cutting heads and leaves no harmful residue. Using the wrong product will void your warranty and can cause permanent damage.
What is the difference between liquid shredder oil and oil sheets?
Liquid shredder oil gives you more control over how much oil you apply and is more economical per application, especially for larger or heavy duty shredders that require more frequent maintenance. A 1 litre bottle can last a busy office shredder for a year or more. Oil sheets are pre-measured and convenient — ideal for personal and home office users who prefer a clean, no-mess application without measuring out liquid. Each sheet delivers a consistent amount of oil in a single pass. Both types are equally effective at lubricating the cutting blades.
Is shredder oil brand-specific, or can I use any brand on my shredder?
Shredder oil is not brand-specific — any quality shredder oil works with any brand of shredder, regardless of whether it is EBA, HSM, Fellowes, GBC, IDEAL, or any other. Shredder2u's own Performance Shredder Oil is fully compatible with all shredder brands we carry and is formulated to the same standard as the branded alternatives at a more affordable price point. The 100ml bottle is a cost-effective option for home users, while the 1 litre bottle is better value for offices maintaining multiple machines.
